Camp meeting 2017: Review from Sunday, July 23

Estimated read time 2 min read

The opening Sunday slate of activities for the 2017 God’s Holiness Grove Camp Meeting was a success, starting with morning services led by the Rev. Ron Murphy, an afternoon dinner on the grounds, some free time for swimming and other activities and then a powerful evening service led by the Rev. Stephen Wilson accompanied by the ministry team of Rev. Ryan and Amanda Brosious.

Rev. Wilson’s message revolved around the story of Moses and the burning bush shared in Exodus 3:1-5. He spoke about the concept of holy ground and that any ground can be holy ground if God gets a hold of it and uses it for His purposes.

He then shared five points for those who want to experience God’s presence in their lives. They included:

  1. People who experience the presence of God usually do so on the far side of their personal deserts (Exodus 3:1)
  2. To experience God’s presence, we need to allow God to ignite us, much like he used a burning bush that was not consumed by the fire. One of many interesting points was how God was using the burning bush as a symbol of what he planned to do with Moses — igniting him with a fire to be a mighty leader.
  3. To experience God’s presence, we can’t be afraid of strange sights, referencing Moses’ curiosity to want to see the burning bush that was not being consumed by the fire.
  4. We need to take the time to realize what God is calling us … and what he is calling us to do.
  5. We need to be willing to take something off — much like Moses took off his sandals. In this case, it may be grudges we are holding or other things that the world has stained us with.

The schedule for Monday includes morning activities for the kids (at the A-Frame office), teens (at the worship center) and the adults (at Pickett Hall) all at 10 a.m. Special activities for the kids and teens in the afternoon and the evening service again led by Rev. Wilson and Rev. Brosious at 7 p.m.
